“Agrahari”

Jai Agrasen Maharaj ji

Origin and History of Agrahari Community-

The eldest son of Maharaja Agrasen, named Vibuntha (Vibhu), means Vishnu Hari. It is possible that the Aghahari dynasty originated from Vibhu synonym Hari. King Hari became the fifth generation of Maharaja Agrasen. Therefore it is possible that both the kings Agar (Maharaja Agrasen) and Hari (King Hari) are named Agar + Hari = Agarhari. Hari ji separated from the Agrawalas, to keep the memories of the Agrawans lasting, the adjective “Agar” before his name started calling himself Agarhari. Agarwal, who is a branch of Hari ji, became famous by the name of V Agarhari. The Agrahari caste is unquestionably related to the Agrawalis. Both are descendants of Maharaja Agasenji. This caste was separated from the forerunners for some reason.

According to the opinion of Shri Gulab Chand Aran, in 1197 AD, the Aghari caste became separate from the Agrawal caste. This caste is also a branch of the Agrawans, Hari ji separated himself from the Agrawals by not supporting the acts of violence. In this way, by becoming “Algahari” (different + Ahari), they started eating their pure food. Algahari’s conversion later became Agrahari.

Another scholar believes that these people used to trade a fragrant wood called “agar”. Therefore, the loser from “agar” means the seller who is called Agrahari.

Agrasen ki Baoli in Delhi. The current structure was built in the 14th century by the Agrawal community, which traces its origin to King Agrasen. It is believed that the original structure was built by the king Agrasen during the Mahabharat epic era.
